You Plan Ahead. This Page Is Built For That.

Most layover guides assume you’re winging it. This one doesn’t. If you want numbers before you decide — not gut feelings — these tools give you exactly that.

✈️
Frequent Flyers
You’ve been caught out before. You know the buffer rule — but you want the exact numbers, not an estimate.

Detail-Oriented Travelers
You don’t leave things to chance. You want to see the risk factors laid out before you commit to leaving the terminal.

Complex Itineraries
Multi-stop trips, tight connections, or international routings that go through more than one country.

Freedom Time Calculator

Your layover length and your usable time are two very different numbers. This calculator works out exactly how much time you actually have to move freely — after transit, re-entry, and a realistic safety buffer.

⏱ Calculate Your Real Freedom Time

Fill in your layover details below. The calculator subtracts your transit time each way, your re-entry buffer, and any extra time you add for delays or customs — leaving you with your real usable window.

Layover Risk Checker

Time isn’t the only thing that matters. These are the real risk factors that turn a fine plan into a missed flight. Check every one that applies to your trip and get a risk rating before you decide to leave the terminal.

⚠️ Check Your Risk Factors

Tick every factor that applies to your layover. The more you check, the more caution the result will flag — with specific advice for each one.

Every Tool You Need, in One Place

These are the pages we built specifically for travelers who want to plan properly. Use them in order before your trip.

What Experienced Layover Travelers Do Differently

These aren’t rules — they’re just patterns that show up again and again with people who travel frequently and rarely miss flights.

Work backwards from your gate, not your destination
Most people plan forward — how long to the city, how long to explore. Experienced travelers plan backwards: gate time, then security buffer, then transit back, then transit out. What’s left is your real window.
Set a hard return alarm — not a soft one
Set a single alarm for the exact moment you need to be heading back. Not a reminder to think about leaving — the actual start-walking moment. Treat it like a boarding alarm, not a suggestion.
Map the exit before you land, not after
Know which exit to use, which train line, and where the nearest station is before your wheels touch down. Figuring it out in the terminal costs you 15–30 minutes you’ve already factored out of your plan.
Budget separately for transit — don’t fold it in
Transit costs add up fast. Train, metro, maybe a cab back when you’re running late. Keep a separate mental budget for getting in and out of the city so it doesn’t eat into what you planned to spend.
Get your eSIM active before you land
You can’t use airport Wi-Fi to set up your eSIM when you land — you need it working before. Buy and activate it on the plane or during a previous connection so it’s ready the second you need navigation.
Drop your bags at the airport, not in the city
Most major airports have luggage storage right at the arrivals exit — often cheaper and faster than finding a Bounce or Nannybag spot once you’re already in the city. It’s the first thing to sort when you land.
